I have not written for a long time - at first I was wondering what to do with myself and when I found it, it absorbed me completely. In 2016 I became a consultant at EBS Ink-Jet Systems Poland Sp. z o.o. in Wrocław (www.ebs-inkjet.pl) and the last two years I was the President of the Management Board and CEO. EBS is an extraordinary company employing many professionals with vast knowledge and experience. In addition to wonderful people, the company is distinguished by the fact that it is the only manufacturer of industrial Ink-jet printers in Poland and the only producer in the world of portable printers, called HANDJET. How many companies in Poland could say that they are the only producer in the world? Few.

 

As a consultant, I carefully noted my observations regarding the company's operations and employees' wishes. When I became President and CEO, I began to introduce changes. The first concerned the sales - a company that has a dynamic Research and Development Department and a Production Department, gives result of its work to a distributor ! We didn't know customers, we didn't have contact with them and on the top of that, large part of profit was given away. We terminated agreement with the distribution company and organized our own Sales and Service Departments serving customers all over Poland. Due to enormous commitment of many people we were able to achieve the first year better result than the distributor ever.

 

The second change concerned the production - every week I heard that we were unable to deliver printers to all customers, something was always missing. I introduced the principle known and tested in the previous company - production according to sales plans. So easy. The result - production has doubled in two years! Nothing stays in the warehouse - everything has been sold to customers, also with the huge help of marketing power of youtube or facebook media.

 

The most important change concerned people - raising earnings, promotions for senior positions, e.g. heads of key departments were nominated for managerial positions, Research and Development Department (DBR) was split into DBR and IT, together with the nomination of new directors for each of these departments. We hired many new employees, because it was necessary with such development. We have created a Test Department to guarantee the high quality of our products. Employees felt needed and appreciated, they were given more freedom in making decisions and this translated into better results and atmosphere at work.

I had great satisfaction seeing the results of management, which I teach at MBA. The circle closed again ...

Steve Jobs said:  “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect the dots looking backwards”. The fact that I teach at the University of  Business, among others, management, entrepreneurship, international business and innovation, comes from what I've done before. In the 80s, I taught students not only biomedical engineering, but fascination with the development of modern medical technology and the need to invest in yourself, at least by learning foreign languages. Teaching innovation, when I talk what can give us a 3D printer in medicine, I say, among others about the project, in which my former student from Warsaw University of Technology is involved. To increase the chances of success of direct percutaneous mitral valve annuloplasthy, they built a three-dimensional model of the heart with the use of the technique called rapid prototyping, known colloquially as three-dimensional printing (3D printing).

In the 90s I worked in business, I started my own company, built a medical equipment sales for large corporation. A circle has been closed when once again, in this century, I established the company providing consulting services and lecturing at the university. A passion for teaching and management experience gained in previous years, allows me to conduct classes in which I show how to practically apply this knowledge based on experience. This would not be possible if I had not passed the described way.

It is the first anniversary  of the establishment of Kosicki Consulting company. Thank you All for your support and visiting my web. First year was marked with my return to academic teaching.  Combination of experience (and passion) in teaching and many years of practice in management, gave unique quality that helps me to inspire students of  University of Business in Wroclaw at  MBA study, class in leadership and modern management and advisory for their master thisis (studies in English as well as new  group in Polish). I also teach negotiations, entrepreneurship and innovations in business for students of Management and provide lectures on different aspects of doing business ( marketing and international business ) in various cultures.
